April Ross

April Ross was one of just a handful of women beach volleyball stars who won medals in several Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman who is a first-time Olympian. Ross hopes to win more than her first Olympic medal. With her age of 39, this may be Ross' last opportunity to claim the gold medal at an Olympics. The athlete is optimistic she can achieve top honors. Ross was reported on NBC Boston as saying that if you play your top, even if you do well, we'll get the gold. In addition, I'm planning put my faith in a touch of good luck. Ross was born in the city of Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents and sister resided in the area. The athletic pursuits she pursued was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several activities. Being a pre-athlete she was also a participant in indoor volleyball and track. However, she was a standout in this sport. In her college profile, she was an outside hitter middle blocker and setter in her volleyball playing career at high school. For her efforts, she was honored as an 1999 Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross and Klineman began the partnership in 2017, However, Ross was a beach scene player for years prior to. The fact is, she's had numerous big wins as well as one of her partners was an all-star volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy was her partner for six years, between 2007 and 2013. Also, she coached Klineman and herself. Kessy was Ross's teammate at the World Championships of 2009. They won a Silver Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat out for gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor as she left the team. The duo went on to earn the beach volleyball bronze in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross began her college time with the Trojans at USC in graduation from high school. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross went to the sand and turned professional. The Trojans had a great run for Ross at the university. In 2000, as a freshman she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year awards and was an All-American. Her Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans were devastated by a personal tragedy during her sophomore year. However, she managed to become an All-American again. Through her last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans to the summit of the mountain netting successive national titles. Ross was an excellent player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player at the college level. Ross was a major in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the opportunity to see her daughter become the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross lost her mom to cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. In the aftermath, Ross remains near to her mother who passed away. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration to her, both on and off the beach.
