Reese Witherspoon's acting career began to take off when she enrolled at Stanford University. Her early critical successes included performances in films like Pleasantville and Election however it was her portrayal of Elle Woods in the box office smash Legally Blonde that marked a turning point in her career. Witherspoon received an Academy Award for her performance in Walk the Line in 2005. Water for Elephants This Means War was one of her most recent movies she appeared in. It also received her another Oscar nomination. Witherspoon was also an accomplished TV producer and a star on David E. Kelley's award winning TV series Big Little Lies. She was the daughter of a doctor and nurse Witherspoon lived at Nashville Tennessee where she was a debutante and attended Harpeth Hall, a prestigious all-girls private high school. Witherspoon took part in a local paper's appeal for extras due to an impulse in 1991. When she was only 14, she was cast as the main character for The Man in the Moon, her debut feature film. Witherspoon was in her early year after graduating from high school and looking into a career as a doctor in order to provide for her parents, considered giving up acting entirely. The performance she made in Freeway in the year 1996 won them the catalonian international film festival's Award for the best actress. Her first year of college was spent focusing on acting. She then studied English at Stanford University for a brief duration before choosing to get back into working. In the comedy The Invisible Man, 2003 she was the first actress to appear in a major feature film. She then appeared in several television series, including House of Lies Whitney, Better Call Saul and The Invisible Man. Alongside her acting work her appearances in films like The Dictator or The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. An accomplished painter, she has also exhibited in several galleries.
